How credits work
Regular posts, link posts, hard-cap, and metered overages.
FuturePost runs on a credit system. Every post you publish through us costs credits. Your plan includes a monthly credit allowance, and you can choose what happens when you run out.
The basics
- 1 regular post = 1 credit
- 1 link post = 15 credits (any post containing a URL)
- Drafts cost nothing, only scheduled and published posts consume credits
- Each post in a thread counts separately
Why link posts cost more
๐ charges roughly 13ร more on the API for posts containing URLs ($0.20 vs $0.015 per post). We pass through the real cost rather than hide it in the base price. If you don't post links, you'll never feel it.
Plans & included credits
| Plan | Price | Credits / mo | Link posts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 15 | Not available |
| Starter | $6 | 350 | Allowed |
| Pro | $12 | 700 | Allowed |
| Team | $24 | 1,400 | Allowed |
What happens when you run out
You have two modes, set under Settings โ Billing:
Hard cap (default on)
When you hit your included quota, scheduling new posts is blocked until the next billing cycle. You can keep saving drafts, only scheduling and publishing pause. We'll email you at 80% and again when you're blocked.
Hard cap off, metered overages
Turn off the hard cap and we keep posting after you exceed your quota. Overages bill through Stripe at the end of your billing cycle at $0.02 per credit (so $0.02/regular post, $0.30/link post). You only pay for what you use.
When credits reset
Credits reset at the start of each billing cycle (your subscription renewal date). The reset happens automatically when Stripe charges you; unused credits don't roll over.
Tracking your usage
Open Settings โ Billing to see a live progress bar, overage estimate (if hard cap is off), and the cycle reset date.
Examples
- A 5-tweet thread, no links: 5 credits
- A single post with a link to your newsletter: 15 credits
- A thread where only post 1 contains a link: 15 + 4ร1 = 19 credits
- Free plan user trying to post a link: blocked; upgrade to Starter or higher
