Where the work happens
Circleboom connects to your account and acts on it from their servers. The extension reads your following list inside your browser, filters it there, and clicks unfollow as you, from your machine, on the login you already have. No password changes hands.
This is not only a privacy point. Actions from your own browser and your own address look like a person using X, because they are, and that is what keeps accounts out of trouble. More on why that matters.

What Circleboom does better
It works while your laptop is shut. If you manage several accounts, a web app handles that more neatly than an extension tied to one session. And an account connection is revocable from X's own settings, which is a clean way to end things.
Whether that is worth $16 a month at the entry tier, or north of $60 once you add Pro and the scheduling product, depends on how often you need it. For a following list you clean out twice a year, it is difficult to justify.
Which to pick
Circleboom if unattended operation across several accounts is worth a subscription, and you want one vendor for posting and cleanup even at two prices.
Futurepost if you want the following list sorted without paying for it, and would like scheduling later at $6 rather than $30.
